An article in today's Austin paper had me dashing to my computer. The Longhorns baseball team, always a power, lost yesterday to Long Beach State. The article consistently referred to the the Long Beach baseball team as the Dirtbags, and I thought, "That's rude" until the umpteenth time it appeared, when I finally realized that Dirtbags was capitalized! Turns out the team hasn't officially changed its name to the Dirtbags, but that is what everyone calls them, including their own fans. The Long Beach State online store sells Dirtbags merchandise. As Mel Allen would say if he were here, "How about that?" Can the New Jersey Scumbags be far behind?
