Say hi to Rupert, who could soon be the biggest domestic cat ever

How could both of these statements be true:

1. "the feline is only 2 years old"

2. "with three Australian 'Cat of the Year' awards"

Is the year a different length below the equator? Maybe their clocks go counter-clockwise, like their flush toilets.
