New Movies In Theaters Nov 16th - Rotten Tomatoes
The 900-lb. gorilla in the room is the PG-13 finale of the Twilight series, which will be in just about every theater you can find (4000+). Amazingly enough, it is pulling in 83% positive reviews, and it's also going to pull in a shitload of dimes on opening weekend. The all-time November record is $142 million, held by another Twilight film. This chapter will be in that same territory or beyond.
The prestige picture of the week is Lincoln (91% positive reviews, four stars from Ebert, PG-13). It will be in 1500 theaters and DDL will show off his Oscar chops (needless to say), but let's face it, it's going to get lost in the box office shuffle. It should come up with a gross in the mid teens, which would be an excellent average per theater, but that would only be good enough for fourth place overall behind the sparkly vampires, James Bond, and Wreck-It Ralph.
I wondered, "What about the 9% of reviewers who do NOT like Lincoln?" The common words in their reviews seem to be "dull" and "boring." The film consists of about 2 1/2 hours of men in whiskers debating in dark rooms, which may not be everyone's cup of tea to begin with, but that tea is made even harder for some to swallow by intrusively stirring music and an atmosphere of solemn gravitas befitting the weighty themes.
