New Movies In Theaters Dec 14th - Rotten Tomatoes
The only wide release is The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (PG-13), heading into the weekend with 76% positive notices. The first part of the Lord of the Rings prequel will be in more than 4000 theaters. It will certainly be the #1 movie, and may take in as much as everything else added together. How high is up? Hard to say. Return of the King opened with $72M in 2003, equivalent to $95 million at today's ticket prices. The Hobbit may fall short of that mark, but the all-time December record is a more modest $77M, and I think that record will probably fall this weekend.
