Where did this guy get the Star Trek lyrics? From some 10 year old's blog? I have been a trekkie since right after the show went into reruns and syndication (If you've ever heard the term 'born-again trekkie', I coined that term one day while talking with George Takei at a convention in Lincoln, NE) and I have never encountered any official lyrics. I think the cracked writer is full of it... or maybe he's just 'cracked'!
There was a book called "The Making of Star Trek" that came out in the 1970's and the lyrics were in there. As I recall the lyrics were written after the fact by someone associated with the show, maybe Gene Roddenberry, and I've never actually heard them sing.
I have heard those lyrics before, in the distant past. They were written during the time of the original series. It was an economic deal the precipitated them. The composer of the original tune, Alexander Courage, was getting 100% of the royalties when Roddenberry exercised a little-known clause in the development deal which allowed him to write lyrics and then claim co-composer status. So he scribbled down some perfunctory crap which was rarely heard - and in the process screwed the other guy out of half of his royalties!
Why doesn't that surprise me? Even the Great Bird of the Universe himself is subject to the capitalistic urges that his TV show said mankind was going to eliminate!
