The Spurs came ready to play
Kevin Durant's debut with the Warriors was a bust. The Spurs totally blew them out by outscoring them in every quarter despite using thirteen players.
The key fact: The Spurs out-rebounded the Warriors 55-35. That's embarrassing.
The unsung hero was back-up point guard Patty Mills, out of tiny St. Mary's College, who had a +/- total of +35 in just 18 minutes on the court. This guy will probably get some serious playing time this year, given that Tony Parker is in the declining phase of his career.
Mills is Australian. St Mary's, which is in California, specializes in recruiting Aussies. They've had at least one on the squad every year since 2001, and currently have seven! It has certainly worked out for them. They are ranked in the top twenty in the nation in the pre-season coaches poll! (They went to the NIT last year. They were first-seeded in their conference tournament, but lost the final game to Gonzaga, thus losing a chance at March Madness.)
