5 Famous Roles Obviously Written For A Different Actor

"The Sheriff In Blazing Saddles Was Supposed To Be Richard Pryor"

Yeah, but that's not even the weird part. The part of The Waco Kid was written with John Wayne in mind, and the role was originally given to Gig Young, who turned out to be an unreliable drunk. He broke down on the set during his first day of shooting. Desperate for an immediate replacement and working on a tight schedule, Mel Brooks let himself be talked into using his buddy, Gene Wilder, who was obviously completely wrong for the part, but was available and eager.

Wilder shaped the role to fit his own capabilities and everything turned out great for the movie!

Things did not turn out too well for Mr Young. At age 65 he married a 31-year-old beauty, Kim Schmidt, a German actress. Three weeks later, he killed her and himself.
