Sir Roger Moore, James Bond actor, dies aged 89
He is the first movie Bond (from the official series) to pass away, but he was the oldest! Although they preceded Moore in the role Connery is slightly younger at 86, Lazenby a mere stripling at 77.
Dalton is 71, Brosnan 64, Craig 49.
The first Bond, Barry Nelson, would have turned 100 last month if he had survived. Nelson played the character in a TV production. The unofficial Bond, David Niven, would have turned 107 in March.
Only four of the Bonds have been true Brits: Craig, Moore, Dalton and Niven. Brosnan is Irish, Lazenby is an Aussie, and Barry Nelson was an American. Connery is the world's most famous Scot, of course. Connery was so impressive in the role that Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, created a back story in his novel You Only Live Twice (which was written after Connery had already played the role on screen) that made Bond the son of a Scotsman, Andrew Bond of Glencoe!
