Dreamers should stay, American voters say by an 8-1 margin

That sounds good, but you know what scares me? The one (in that eight-to-one margin). 11% of Americans think we should deport people who have no memory of any other country to a place where they have no roots and probably don't even speak the language. That is even with the knowledge that many of those dreamers are performing vital jobs in areas like first response and the US military. Worse yet, only 64% of Republicans think that dreamers should get some path to citizenship. After a while there's no sense even calling yourself a Republican. You may just as well admit that the upper-case "R" actually stands for "Racist."

I am a registered Republican, and an admirer of Ronald Reagan and even of Barry Goldwater in many ways. But these sorts of things, and the latest trends in the GOP, make my skin crawl.

On a lighter note, only 6% of Americans are opposed to medical marijuana.

  1. Looking at the survey, it appears 64% of Republicans favor citizenship for Dreamers, 12% favor some kind of legal alien status, and only 20% favor deportation.

  2. And just cos you got close enough to my pet peeve - if you join our military, you should get to stay.

Finish basic training, here's your green card. Get anywhere near combat or finish your hitch with anything other than a dishonorable, you're a citizen. No memorizing Supreme Court judges, no bullshit.

You put your ass on the line for us, you're one of us. It should be a law. Hell, it should be so obvious it doesn't have to be a law.

    1. I agree with that. You're not only one of us, but in a very real way, you're one of the better ones.

  3. Since when do Republicans care what the majority of Americans want?

  4. I think a lot of people don't understand the whole daca thing. They think it's kids brought by illegals, so they picture it being just younger illegals, as if their age gives them an out. I don't think most people get that we're talking about kids that literally have no memory of another country and have been here, in most cases, for years. Not 16yearolds that came here last Tuesday.

  5. Most republicans are perfectly fine with the dreamers staying. But it's Trump's best bargaining chip, so he should use it. You want the dreamers to stay? Fine, we get the wall. Fair trade as far as I'm concerned.

Besides, the democrats aren't exactly Mother Teresa. Take a wild guess as to which way a typical dreamer votes? There is political motivation for the left to keep dreamers in the country.
