Initial talks underway about Trump interview in Mueller Russia probe
Trump would be disastrous face-to-face because the interrogators will not allow him to bullshit his way through the questions, and his lawyers will advise him not to plead the fifth, so he'll have to give direct answers sooner or later. And because he's Trump, you know he'll eventually tell some whoppers under oath. He will especially come under fire for his public claims that he was not aware of any of his aides meeting with Russians, because it appears that he was very well aware of the infamous Trump Jr "I love it" meeting. You know he does not want to discuss that or his comments to the Russians about the Comey firing face-to-face.
Trump's lawyers want the President to submit written answers to interrogatories rather than to accede to a face-to-face interview. This is smart, given that Trump will probably never even see the answers until after his lawyers have crafted and polished them. (If he even bothers to read his own answers at all.)
Can they compromise?
One analyst commented, "The odds of prosecutors agreeing to written responses are somewhere between infinitesimally small and zero."
