Sarah Tither-Kaplan in James Franco's "Hungry Girl"

Sarah Tither-Kaplan in James Franco's "Hungry Girl"

This is a short "produced as part of James Franco's Sex Scenes Master Class at Studio 4 in Los Angeles." So James Franco teaches young actors how to do sex scenes? That sounds pretty shady to me. (And proof that he really is a genius, albeit kind of an evil one. On the surface, he seems to be goin' full Klaus Kinski with this obvious scam.)

And he would have gotten away with it as well, if not for those meddling women! Ms Tither-Kaplan called him out today. The details are kind of messy. Apparently she did nude scenes in two different Franco films, and she has appeared in something like nine of his movies, including at least three feature-length efforts. The internet has not responded well to her accusations. The argument of her critics is that he searched for women to do nude scenes, she volunteered, signed a contract, did them, got paid, then returned to work with him many more times - end of story. Her rejoinder is that she's a starving actress and he's a Big Kahuna, so the contracts are just another form of exploitation through power.

I have formed no opinion on this one. I have a feeling it's far more complicated than we know, probably filled with all sorts of unrevealed secrets. As ol' Mel Allen used to say, "You make the call."

  1. That school and it's end is the subject of a lot of rumors of serious problems. Yes, he was teaching sex scenes. And the word is not all the actresses were 18.

    2. I also offer a class teaching (fully legal, of course) young women how to fuck at the local technical college, but so far I have very limited registration, just slightly lower than their class on appreciating Knight of Cups.

  2. Why would anyone want to fuck at the local technical college?

  3. I always thought it was hilarious that the ONE class he taught was about sex scenes. Unless he taught other classes I'm not aware about. As for the nudity in those films though, the students wrote and directed them so it seems like they had the option to include nudity or not...unless he was pushing them to do it. Still, those movies are online and I watched a few. About half had nudity. So I guess not everyone felt the had to do it.

I do get her complain about the movies, and it's rough being a starving artist...but maybe she just shouldn't have made those flicks. Done other roles for low money. I get both sides here, but if you only have so much budget, what do you do?
