In contrast, Sydney's January is more like San Diego's July. The average January high is a comfortable 79 there. For example, the Wednesday forecast is for a high of 74.

But wait, there's more. There was a wave of extreme heat last year as well. Last January's average temperature was 6 degrees (F) above normal. As wildfires raged and people sweltered throughout the country, climate scientists warned that this extreme heat, super-charged by climate change, is becoming Australia's new normal.
Well, I guess it's still better than hurricanes and bombcyclones, except maybe for that whole pesky wildfire thingy.
