It’s OK for Trump to break the law because every candidate for President breaks the law.

It’s OK for Trump to break the law because “every candidate violates the election laws when they run for president.”

NOT The Onion. This one is real.

In case you didn’t notice, this is the worst defense ever, because it then mandates this syllogism:

Every candidate for President violates the laws

Trump was a candidate for President

Therefore, Trump violated the law

Alan Dershowitz is a law professor and I’m no lawyer, but I have to think that an admission that “the accused violated the law” is probably not the optimal legal defense. Personally, I would go with “my client followed the standard precedent set by every previous President, which is clearly not in violation of any laws.” Oh, sure, that would be a lie, but it at least has a chance of working on a jury, as opposed to “my client violated the law,” which must inevitably produce the Bialystock and Bloom verdict.

  1. Let’s look at your facts. Unemployment is indeed at its lowest since 2,000…but that’s at the tail end of an incredibly steady decline for the past 8 years. It’s steepest declines happened prior to Trump’s election.

Taxes cut to benefit whom? While there have been sole digs, they mostly benefit the wealthy and corporations. The middle clsss is too large for the cuts to really disperse much amongst them. As far as corporations passing their savings on to employees…good luck. Wage increases would be preferred.

I hope to see the retail confidence continue, but I worry what the trade wars will do as sellers will be forced to raise prices to compensate (already seeing it in my businesses) and start to peck away at consumer confidence.

The charts I’ve seen show illegal o,migration leaking in 2007 and falling at a consisten rate since then. You can view this on fact-check.org.

So, I’ll give you maybe one half win there. And I’d trade thst win in for a president who doesn’t empower racist, bigoted, ignorant, disillusioned members of middle America into thinking they should be allowed to spew their vile and disgusting scapegoating hatred on the more evolved denizens of this country.

  2. Interesting. Captain Obvious makes a factual argument, and thus far NO ONE has even attempted to refute him, choosing instead to resort to ad hominem attacks.

If his facts are wrong (or “alternative” in modern parlance), then you should have no problem refuting him. When you don’t even attempt to refute, it tells me that you can’t.

    1. Matt addressed those points below, but the reason we didn’t address his points is basically that they are irrelevant to the debate.

It’s like saying Harvey Weinstein produced many great movies.

      Which he did.

It’s like saying that Hitler brought Germany out of economic turmoil to prosperity.

      Which he did.

(And then to ruin. Just the way Trump ran many of his businesses.)

It is important to view the economy in long-range terms as well as in the short haul. Why not reduce pollution controls, eliminate energy conservation, turn Federal lands over for fracking, reduce corporate and other taxes, stimulate coal at the expense of alternate energy, and create some American jobs with protective tariffs. Those actions will prime the economic pump, won’t they? But are they the proper long-term solutions?

And it is essential to see the economy as PART of the needs of the country, not ALL. People need jobs. But they also need clean air to breathe and water to drink; they need medical care; they need affordable housing; they need to be protected from predatory practices and crippling debt; they need to be protected from hostile foreign powers; they need to be protected from crime; they need to be protected from racism. And the list goes on.

  3. Trump’s reality has now equaled Mel Brooks’ absurdity. And yet how many people still fervently support him? It is comedy and tragedy at once.

    1. Ignore the red herrings that the MSM is throwing out (Trump cheated on his wife! Trump didn’t file his taxes right! Trump lied! Trump…..) and look at what he is ACCOMPLISHING – Lowest unemployment rate in decades across the board, taxes cut, stupid rules eliminated, retail sales and confidence higher than at any time since Reagan, illegal immigration cut by more than 50% over Obama’s dismal record and on and on.

Sometimes ACTIONS do speak louder than words.

Don’t give a shit about any of your non-sense.

Trump is a traitorous, unfit, president and a pathological lair.

Anybody who sees Trump as someone who can do no wrong and will vote for him again is a mere Russia useful pawn.
