Trump demonstrates that he has no understanding of the terms “England,” “Great Britain,” and the “United Kingdom.”
Damn, that guy is ignorant.
Which is OK. The world embraces ignorant guys. If one is completely pragmatic, it is possible to argue that the world needs ignorant guys.
But maybe not as President of the USA.
“President Donald Trump once again displayed a fundamental misunderstanding of the very makeup of one of the United States’ closest allies, suggesting of Great Britain: ‘they used to call it England.'”
- They still call England “England,” those tricky bastards!
- “Great Britain” refers to the island that includes England, Scotland and Wales.
- The “United Kingdom” is the name of the sovereign nation which includes all of the above plus Northern Ireland.
- The Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are part of separate arrangements, distinct from the U.K.

The Kingdom Of England ceased to be in 1707 when it joined with Scotland. So, yes there was time when it was just England. After 1707 it was known as the Kingdom of Great Britain and after it joined with Ireland in 1801 it was the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Later when Ireland became independent it became known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
I think people who know anything about the rest of the world know that. The reason Trump displayed his idiocy here is not that Trump doesn’t necessarily know this, but because he didn’t know what to refer to the United Kingdom as, and most importantly, rather than admit his ignorance and laugh at it, tried to pathetically cover it up in a way that wouldn’t fool anybody except his idiot cultist supporters.
“I have great respect for the U.K. United Kingdom. Great respect. People call it Britain. They call it Great Britain. They used to call it England, different parts.”
So, the problem is not his ignorance per se, it’s that his massive ego won’t permit him to show his ignorance and his stupidity in believing that he can cover up his ignorance with inanities.
“….But, her emails.”
