Bookies take bets on the author of the “resistance” op-ed

Pence is the favorite.

The next in line, shockingly, is Betsy DeVos. I doubt that one. The author is eloquent and methodical. DeVos is neither.

My guy (Hassett) is not on the chart.

  1. If the Op Ed is telling the truth, all I can say is I was really hoping that’s what has been going on in the Trump administration.

I have to wonder why he (or she) would write it as, even if Trump can’t read any of the big words himself, Fox News would be sure to discuss it. What I mean is that tipping Trump off to the internal resistance is only going to make it harder to steal documents off his desk. Maybe Bob Woodward promised to share book royalties. Then again, he or she may have a more self-serving motive. It may be that in a few years working in the Trump administration will not be a politically advantageous resume item. If so, Mike Pence or whomever can reveal themselves as anonymous and say “I was with you the whole time!!!” Or not. Who knows?

  2. None of this interests me. “Who is the author?” is a parlor game the same as ‘who was Deep Throat.”

The significant thing is the message. However, that’s not significant because the message is nothing new. Not only does it come right on the heels of the Woodward book advanced releases, but nothing in the letter was not already public knowledge.

The idea of the ‘soft coup’ isn’t even new as the three guys who had their stick together/resign together pact: Mattis, Kelly and the third, had already stated they were staying on in start to stop Trump from ‘acting on his worst impulses.’

The only thing that reads true to me of this op-ed is that it is another attempt to separate conservativism from conservatives generally, and specifically Trump. “Trump is terrible, but many of his policies are great!”

In that, it’s no different than with George W. Bush. Right up until 2005-2007 Republicans/conservatives were proud that Bush was their President, after Katrina and the Financial Meltdown it was suddenly ‘Bush was never really a conservative.’

  3. I think it’s Steve Bannon. This story seems tailor made to feed the Alt Right’s fears of the “Deep State”.
