The Mets’ Jacob deGrom makes history

The Mets’ Jacob deGrom makes history

“Padding his Cy Young bona fides, deGrom tossed a 26th straight start allowing three runs or fewer. He broke a century-old major league record set by the Cubs’ Leslie ‘King’ Cole in 1910.”

And he also got saddled with a loss.

Again.

Despite a 1.71 ERA, which leads the league by a wide margin, DeGrom’s W-L record is 8-9.

  1. I think it would actually be cooler to win with a losing record. How many pitchers with a losing record have ever won a Cy Young? But I am sure Jake would rather win the remainder of his games.

    1. Just one.
Gagne in 2003 had a below 500 record.
Though the 1974 winner (Marshall) had very atypical statistics.
21 saves and and 27 decisions (15-12 record)

  2. Felix Hernandez won with a 13-12 record and a 2.27 era. So maybe there’s hope for him if he can at least end up with a winning record

  3. Well as far as I am concerned he should win. But as a Mets fan I may be a tiny bit biased. What else have we Mets fans got to root for except maybe a lower finish and thus a higher draft pick. DeGrom is sort of like a modern day Roger Craig except better.

  4. Just wondering how much consideration he’ll get for the Cy Young. Will they get hung up on his win loss record or over look it.
