The Brewers and Astros are on the edge of elimination

Wednesday baseball:

The Brewers lost to the best pitcher of his generation. No shame there, but they return to Milwaukee with their backs against the wall. The Brewers once again tinkered with the whole concept of a starting pitcher. Instead of going 5 innings, their starter went 5 pitches.

The Astros have been good. The game would have been tied if Altuve’s homer had counted. The ‘Stros would have won if Benintendi failed to make that diving, sliding catch that ended the game. That catch was the most important play of the year because it was the difference between a tied series and an almost insurmountable 3-1 lead. Yes, the Astros have been good. The Sox have been better.

  1. I’m rooting for the Brewers, but a Dodgers-Red Sox World Series would be great for the sport.
