The Cherokee Nation to “Pocahontas”: STFU

The Cherokee Nation press release did not pull any punches:

“Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens.”

The Cherokee Secretary of State also pointed out that the DNA tests do not distinguish between tribes or even between natives of North and South America, so when the reports read “Native American” it might be Inca or Mapuche or any other indigenous group from South America.

  1. You have to concede this one to Trump. He keeps pushing people’s buttons until they do something stupid. Obama finally made his birth certificate public and Trump took credit while at the same time denying the birther thing was his idea. Clearly Warren didn’t do this for the $1M, she was trying to embarrass Trump and it turned on her.

  2. Not so, it was a continued from an earlier post. I also pointed out I was making assumptions about Ryan, so you weren’t the first.

    1. ok, one of us is confused, and I’m not sure which one.

I mentioned you were the first person to post in this topic. How is that “not so”?

      1. This post from Scoopy is a continuation of the “Pocahontas takes a DNA test.” At least I took it as such.

  3. The average American of European ancestry has twice the amount of native American DNA than she does.

If Sen. Warren actually had the genealogy she would not have needed the test. People claiming Native American ancestry do so for federal tax exempt status, tribal benefits, and/or filling schooling or employment quotas.

    1. But, I’ll bet you also believe that Trump is a genuinely self made person and that he actually cares about you.

I suppose you could be both anti Elizabeth Warren and Donald Trump, but the people making a big deal out of this nonsense are pretty much all Republicans.

        1. Technically, I’m making a big deal out of other people making a big deal out of this nonsense.

          1. and yet, you were the first person to post in this topic.

(I could also point out the unwarranted assumptions about Ryan, but I won’t. And yet, I just did.)

    2. It is easy to tell what news sources someone reads based upon the amount of Native American DNA they say she has.
Any that has read non – biased, non partisan sources would see that the test gave a range of values.
Conservative sites keep going to the 1/1024 figure, but that only accounts for the lowest end of the range that the test found.
If that is the only figure you have seen, you may want to expand your range of news sites as the tests found that she was somewhere between 1/32nd (6th generation) to 1/1024th (10th generation) Native American.
If your news sites only give you the lower range, they are neither fair or balanced.

      1. I agree with your point, but your math is wrong. She ranges from 1/64 to 1/1024.

1/32 is not within the range of the estimate. That would be only five generations.

1 gen =2 (2 to the first power)
2 gen =4 (2 to the second power)
        3 gen =8 (etc.)
        4 gen =16
        5 gen =32
        —–
        6 gen =64
        7 gen =128
        8 gen =256
        9 gen =512
        10 gen =1024
        —–
But you’re right, the right-wing focuses on the far end of the spectrum only, because of the possibility that her connection is even less than that of the “average” white European-American. (.10 Native American DNA for Warren at that level, versus .18 for the average person of white European ancestry).

  4. So, Elizabeth Warren was hounded for years to get this DNA test, including by the serial liar in the White House, she takes the test and releases the result, and now she’s being criticized for taking the test.

Some people can’t win, and all the while the psychopath in the White House keeps on doing terrible things that hardly get covered.

The United States is some kind of idiotic Bizarro World.
