Here is why Trump might get re-elected

The majority of people are unimpressed with Trump. The problem is the Democrats have to run a real person. Either the possible candidates are ancient, or Americans don’t much care for them. The current favorite of Democrat voters is (I’m not kidding) “none of the above.”

In head-to-head match-ups:

* Joe Biden beats Trump in a hypothetical match-up, but he would be 78 if he took office in 2021.
* Bernie Sanders is about even with Trump, but he’s even older than Biden.
* The younger candidates don’t do as well. Trump wins by a large margin over Beto.

Shockingly, the leading Democratic candidates were doing better in a hypothetical match-up back in August. Despite all of Trump’s scandals and boners, he has gained on all of them!

  1. I don’t even bother anymore with polls and who will do what, and what will happen. That’s pretty much underestimating the stupidity of the general US citizen. You had Trump supporters on TV blaming Obama for 9/11. It took a miracle for someone in Alabama win an election over a fucking pedophile.

Really, nothing surprises me anymore. Trump could have run with Ted Bundy and got 40% of the vote, that’s how fucked up his cult supporters are in this country.

  2. In the wake of the Gulf War George H.W. Bush had a 90% approval rating and SNL ran a skit with a debate of prominent Democratic politicians called “the race to avoid losing to George Bush.” Among the participants were Dick Gephardt and Mario Cuomo with Mario Cuomo exclaiming “I have mob ties!!!” My point is that candidates will emerge. I don’t really think Beto will get the nomination. Bush 41 was a Texas congressman who lost a senate race before being elected president. But in between that he was Ambassador to the UN, RNC Chairman, Ambassador to China, Director of the CIA and Vice President. Beto may need some resume enhancement first.

I really can’t see how Trump could be reelected. But I never saw him winning the nomination, much less the general election. I just hope the Dems nominate a more moderate candidate. If so I will probably end up voting for a Democrat for president for the first time in my life. My most fervent hope is Trump decides not to run again just so he could claim that he would have won if he ran, but he didn’t need to run because America is great again.

  3. These polls are pretty useless at this point as for nearly all the candidates, support is based on nothing but name recognition.

The U.S Senate result was based on the Democrats having to defend 26 seats and the Republicans just 9, with a fair number of the Democratic seats being in ‘red states.’ Since U.S Senate elections are every 6 years, they experience something of a time lag effect. In this case, most of the Democratic U.S Senators were from elected in the Democratic wave year of 2006. The Democrats almost certainly would have lost Missouri and never won Indiana in 2012 had the Republicans not nominated terrible candidates in those states in that cycle.

  4. I call shenanigans on every level. You can’t pair this with his approval levels. Not remotely. It also doesn’t jibe with the blue wave we just saw.

I’m guessing they polled the 100 most out of touch old people who still have landlines without caller id.

As for beto, look at how popularity Obama was before anyone knew him on the national level. Beto is a campaigner. The anti trump. And that’s why he’d blow Cheeto von Tweeto away.

Biden? Non starter. To few people remember he was wacky uncle Joe, put on the ticket as assassination insurance.

Beernie? Ancient and a self labeled socialist. Socialist is the worst insult a gop voter can use.

Beyond that they have a few really good choices once the campaign starts. Beto came within one percentile or so of unseating a gop senator in the reddest of red states. The guys a winner.

    1. The guys a winner….except for when he loses.

Keep dreaming people. I hate to break it to you, but people like making more money, and Beto hasn’t helped put a dime in any of our pockets.

Blue wave? How cute, did you learn that on CNN? If that’s a blue wave, can you explain the Senate? Dems did good in the House, but that was a given since voters are good about keeping both side’s power in check.

      1. Objectively, the GOP got creamed in the Senate races. There were 35 Senate seats up for grabs. The Democrats/Independents won 24, the Republicans 11. That was more lopsided than the House results.

The problem for the Dems was that they were defending 26 seats, so they needed to win 27-8 to gain ground, and they only won 24-11. But 24-11 is still a solid win, even though they lost ground.

The GOP will have the equivalent problem in the next two elections. In 2020 there will be 31 seats up for grabs, only 11 of them Democrats. In 2022 there will be 34 up for grabs, only 12 of them Democrats. If the GOP can’t find a way to turn the tide, 2020 will be a disaster.

For the Democrats, however, the promise of a “possible” 2020 victory will result in too little too late, even if true. It does not seem likely that RBG will live another two years, so Trump (or possibly Pence?) will probably get to name another justice and get confirmation in the Senate.

          1. Probably means you don’t understand it, because it is factual. Put another way, if the Democrats won every single Senate race in 2018, they would have a Senate majority of 58-42. Whereas if the Republicans won every race, they would have a majority of 77-23.

    2. No, the problem is reality. People are now ready to vote against Trump, but they just don’t like the choices. I haven’t seen a poll pitting Trump against “generic Democrat,” but I’d bet he loses that one.

  5. I’m always ready to vote None of the Above. I respect his (or her) spotless background and familiarity with the issues.

  6. “I’ll tell you what’s at the bottom of it,” he said. “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” – LBJ
