The Government Suggests Furloughed Workers Do Chores for Landlords to Help Pay Rent

    1. Just as bad … but you’re right, I guess. It must be the government that is tone deaf, not specifically the Trump administration.

      1. are you talking to me? If so, which part do you think that I am lying about? That there was sequestration/furlough under Barak Hussein Obama or that I experienced it or that similar letters were sent?

        1. Pro tip: anyone with the compulsion to use Obama’s middle name should be analyzed through the Comrade Filter.

          1. FWALD: what is a comrade filter? ALso, its not unusual to use a President’s middle name or initial – Richard Milhouse Nixon and John F Kennedy come to mind. Hussein is not a bad name, why is there an issue with it?

        2. The one in 2013 is similar to the one now. Then, the Republicans modified the bill to keep the government open because they didn’t want the poor getting health insurance. Now, its because of dumb shit not getting his wall. If you don’t like government shutdowns, stop voting for the dumb fuck GOP.

“The Republican-led House of Representatives, in part encouraged by conservative senators such as Ted Cruz and conservative groups such as Heritage Action, offered several continuing resolutions with language delaying or defunding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly known as “Obamacare”). The Democratic-led Senate passed several amended continuing resolutions for maintaining funding at then-current sequestration levels with no additional conditions.”

        3. Yeah, I’m explicitly disbelieving that the letter you received in 2013 contained a condescending suggestion that you try and pay your mortgage or rent by doing odd jobs.

I think it just apologized for the extraordinary situation, or suggested you contact your creditors, as the one linked by Tanner did. Which would mean it was NOT a similar letter.

Either you don’t understand that the idiotic suggestion that furloughed employees try and stave off eviction through in kind payment was the issue or you’re engaging in pathetic whataboutism by pointing out that there was a shutdown under Obama, which falcon has explained below as being caused by the Republicans.

          In either case, fuck off.

          1. I think the 2013 letter was quite similar.

            As follows:

“As we discussed, I am a Federal employee who has recently been furloughed due to a lack of funding of my agency. Because of this, my income has been severely cut and I am unable to pay the entire cost of my rent, along with my other expenses.

As we had agreed in our conversation, I will be able to make regular payments in the amount of $_______. I realize that I will be responsible to pay the remainder of the payments and, when I return to work, I will contact you immediately to work out a plan to take care of the reduced payments. I will keep in touch with you to keep you informed about my income status and I would like to discuss with you the possibility of trading my services to perform maintenance (e.g. painting, carpentry work) in exchange for partial rent payments.”

          2. It should also be pointed out, in fairness, that the Trump administration has now removed the condescending landlord letter in response to public outrage (you can download the revised package here), but the Obama admin never did. The 2013 letter is still online in its original form, courtesy of Wayback (and Tanner).

          3. Huh. OK, I missed the portion of the last page of the letter Tanner linked containing the verbatim identical language eliminated from the current version.

What we’re dealing with is an OPM staffer from 2013 trying to deal with an unprecedented situation in a short time frame, with the original letter being trotted out again now and only now being picked up on by the Daily Beast, which didn’t do due diligence in confirming that the letter was a Trump era composition.

So I’m wrong with respect to the fact that a similar letter was sent by officials of the Obama administration.

That doesn’t really mean that my view of the cause of both shutdowns is incorrect.

          4. I said similar, not exact. So I am sure the ones from Donald John Trump are not exactly the same.

Thank you for the reply, either way, I hope you have. a great New Years!
