I started to type “a young Mimi Rogers …” until it dawned on me that she has never been young. She skipped past normal human gestation and proceeded immediately to her 30s. The reason she seems to have never been young is that she was outside of the entertainment world throughout the 1970s. By the time she entered show biz in 1981, she was 26.
I saw this movie in the theater back in 1991, and I remember quite a bit of it. To me, that’s a sign of a good movie (you know, in my opinion). It seemed quite striking. I could understand how some people could dismiss it, though, the way some people roll their eyes at pretty much all the original “Twilight Zone” episodes today. I suppose peoples opinions about movies (or narrative art in general) can say as much about them as about the art. Maybe I was just in the right mood at the time I saw this.
