Game Of Thrones Finale: This Could Mean Dany Dies In Episode 6, Season 8

“The Episode 6 teaser trailer and photos only include the sorts of things you would expect after watching Episode 5, which means there’s plenty of speculation to go around.”

Of course she will die. Obviously she has become her father, yet another mad Targaryen.

The only question is how she will die.

Geeky commentary follows:

—————

She can’t be defeated in battle because there is now no opposition force capable of taking on her armies and her dragon. Therefore, she will have to be killed in an intimate face-to-face confrontation. Only four people have ever earned enough trust from her to get close enough to kill her: Missandei, Grey Worm, Ser Jorah and Jon Snow. Missanedei and Jorah are dead. Grey Worm is totally loyal. That leaves only two possibilities:

She is killed by Jon Snow.

or

She is killed by Arya disguised as Jon Snow.

Personally, I think the latter is the better storyline because it is more consistent with each character’s previous development. It relieves Jon Snow, ever pure of heart, from the responsibility of killing his lover, who is also his father’s sister. He would have to do that in some duplicitous way, like disingenuously pretending to understand her actions before chopping off her head. Jon is so honest that that would be wildly out of character, and if he had to do it, would never be able to forgive himself. Hell, that mopey sumbitch is depressed even in his happiest moments. Arya, on the other hand, is a cold and experienced assassin.

However as much as I would rather see Arya commit the deed, I don’t think that will happen because the Khaleesi is protected by a dragon. That makes Arya vulnerable in two ways:

(1) I don’t think a disguise would fool the dragon. I don’t know the rules of dragon physiology, but I assume the dragon could tell from its non-visual senses that a disguised Arya is not really Jon. (Remember the dog in the movie Body Double? The disguise fooled every human, but the murderer was betrayed by the dog’s behavior.)

(2) Let’s suppose the Khaleesi is about to be killed face-to-face in a clinch. The dragon would protect her by breathing fire at both of them, harmless to the Khaleesi, but fatal to any non-Targaryen assassin. In other words, Jon could presumably pull that off because he is a Targaryen, but a disguised Arya would be roasted like a marshmallow.

So I guess John will have to put on his big boy pants, kill his auntie/sweetie, and do even more moping than usual.

  1. There’s some speculation that until we actually see a character die on screen (and there’s an exception there as well…) that they’re not dead. The actor playing Jaime Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, hasn’t received/given his social media farewell as of yet. So maybe the Kingslayer might have a chance to become a Queenslayer as well. Jaime Lannister could be lurking in the ruins of the Red Keep weak, but not dead.

    1. Good point. You might be right about that. Maybe she can only take the identity of a dead person. I think I forgot the details!
