Just about nobody has seen this film in years. It was almost as if it had never existed. Although it is nearly 30 years old, it has only 108 votes on IMDb, and only four external reviews, all from minor sources, all written in the past month, following release of a new Blu-Ray. At any rate, we now know why there seems to be a 20-year nudity gap in Melissa’s career from 1985 to 2005. There wasn’t any gap after all. It turns out that she was getting naked, but nobody saw it!

This is an unusual and intriguing study of a woman’s desperation to have a child. A typical “stiff upper lip” Brit (James Wilby), employed by an international conservation group, marries the daughter of an American senator (Melissa Leo). The pair, despite several efforts, are increasingly frustrated in their attempts to have a child. Desperate, the woman explores remedies to her problem from outside the realm of mainstream medicine.
Her photographer friend introduces her to a Pakistani shrine, run by eunuchs, which claims to cure infertility. She and her reluctant husband spend a weekend there and becomes pregnant shortly after. Their joy is short-lived when the sect stakes a claim on Hannah’s child, based upon the true explanation for the seeming miracle. (After some rituals, the sect encourages the couple to have sex. The eunuchs then drug the couple and bring in a fertile stud to go full Cosby on the unconscious woman. She was under the influence, and also had vigorous sex with her husband, so she suspects nothing of the duplicity.)
