Federal watchdog agency recommends White House aide Conway be fired

“The U.S. Office of Special Counsel, which is unrelated to special counsel Robert Mueller’s office, said in a letter to Trump that Conway has been a ‘repeat offender’ of the Hatch Act by disparaging Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during television interviews and on social media.”

——-

“Allowing Ms. Conway to continue her position of trust at the White House would demonstrate that the president is not interested in following the law or requiring his closest aides to do so.”

Hey, brilliant thinking, Poindexter! Do ya’ think the president is not interested in following the law or requiring his closest aides to do so? Gee, what tipped you off? Was it yesterday’s comment when he said that election laws do not apply to him?

  1. Justice Ginsburg has made a number of statements over the years that arguably violate judicial canons or that some have argued should have led to recusals in some cases. But the Code of Conduct for Federal Judges isn’t actually binding on Supreme Court justices. As far as recusal, a Justice is the sole arbiter of when there own recusal is necessary. I think Justice Ginsburg has made it pretty clear she is going to say whatever she wants to say and stick around for as long as she wants.

As for Kelly Ann Conway, she should go. There is (or at least was ) actually a perfect out for her. She could resign from the White House and go to work for Trump’s reelection campaign. But now that an ethics watchdog has said she should go, Trump is going to keep her around. If I didn’t know better I’d start to think Trump was NOT the most honorable, honest, and ethical president we’ve ever had. If I didn’t know better…

  2. Yeah, I get that RBG’s wasnt a hatch act violation, but generally we prefer our supreme court justices not to publicly bash presidential candidates.

I’ll turn it around, which seems to be the best way to make this point. Speaking of beer-boy…if Judge Kavanaugh were to rip Joe Biden as dishonest, a faker, and should drop out of the race…we know thered be no end to the controversy.

  3. I’m not sure if the dems thought this through. Under that precedent, Ginsberg must be removed from the Supreme Court for publicly taking sides during the ’16 election. I’ll take that trade off!

    1. I’m pretty sure Ginsburg is not an employee of the executive branch (although beer-boy might be).

The Hatch Act provides that persons below the policy-making level in the executive branch of the federal government must not only refrain from political practices that would be illegal for any citizen, but must abstain from “any active part” in political campaigns.
