Americans overwhelmingly find Trump’s “go back” comments racist

By about a 2-1 margin!

Interestingly, only 30% of Americans feel the comments were not racist, but Trump’s approval rating is about 45%.

In other words, about a third of Trump’s supporters acknowledge that he is racist, and support him. (Perhaps that is WHY they support him, although that is just speculation. There is no evidence to support the position that all of those people approve of him because he is racist. Many or all may feel that they approve him for other reasons, in spite of his racism. Neither case gives me much peace of mind.)

His strong core of racist supporters, or supporters overlooking his racism, doesn’t surprise me. At one point Trump’s only issue was Obama’s Kenyan birth, and that issue was pure racism in that there was never any evidence of any kind to support it or any legitimate reason to believe it. So back then, 100% of his supporters were in his corner because he was racist. That number must be below 100% now, so I guess you could view that as progress in some twisted way.

  1. I think all that has been said about this is beating a dead horse, but one thing I find fascinating about it all is how many conservatives lecture millennial on the ‘entitlement’ generation. Yet I’ve never seen a group of people so entitled about citizenship in my life.

Guess what, if you’re white, someone at some point came here overseas. I won’t even set the bar high, you can lecture others about going back to ‘their country’ if you’re at least 1/4th Native American – then you can be sanctimonious about it. Otherwise, shut the hell up with that shit. You’re no better than a person from Central America trying to get here with their family so they literally will not DIE. I would take the fight in that person over any one of you damn Trump supporters any day of the week.

Also the whole, ‘well its illegal’ appeal to authority thing is bullshit. Every person in this country breaks traffic laws and probably has broken intellectual property laws, or more, constantly. So lets not pretend US law is some grand litmus test of morality. A ton of citizens got here through much, much more lax immigration laws through Ellis Island. Hating people for trying to live when there was very likely at least one of YOUR ancestors who came over on a boat is ridiculous.

What happened to, ‘give me your tired, your hungry, your poor’? That’s American. And while we’re at it, for the conservative Christians, why selectively dismiss:

“The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.”
    Leviticus 19:34

“Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God!” 24 This amazed them. But Jesus said again, “Dear children, it is very hard[b] to enter the Kingdom of God. 25 In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”
    Mark 10

You people seriously need help. If you claim one, or both, you people are neither Christian or American, because you definitely do not practice what you preach. If there is a God, I hope you have a great answer for when you meet your maker one day, on this era in your lives. I would love to hear the answer as to why you treated people with such great hate who needed help.

      1. No, its just strategy apparently. Someone declares bankruptcy six times and pays nothing, finds every loophole in their taxes, or gets some golden parachute worth 10 plus million while thousands lose their job, that’s just ‘strategy.’

Some poor family trying to make ends meet, might have a chronic illness, or whatever else obstacles in life goes and get a hundred dollars worth of food stamps a month, they’re societal leeches.

Yeah I think conservatives have this whole Jesus’ teachings thing sorted out.

  2. Yes, William W Stanley, discrimination on the basis of race, creed, or color is perfectly fine as long as the trains run on time, isn’t it? Until YOUR ox is gored, of course. Oh, wait, the pro-Trumpers are ALREADY whining about being victims, and have been since….when was affirmative action invented anyway? My god, you people cannot keep your story straight, can you?

  3. Wow, TheGent. If you are unhappy here on this forum, why don’t you leave and go back where you came from? You are all right with that suggestion, aren’t you?

  4. “And even if he is racist, who cares? As long as he does the job we hired him for, that’s the only thing that counts.”

Yeah. That’s exactly what I started with. A third of his supporters are able to see the obvious fact that he is racist, but don’t care. The remaining 2/3 are somehow unable to recognize (or unwilling to acknowledge) his obvious racism for one reason or another (I can only speculate what those might be).

By the way, there’s no such thing as photographic evidence of non-racism. There are plenty of pictures of all of us with people we can’t stand. That’s like saying Trump must be a pervert because there is photographic and video evidence of him being very friendly with Jeffrey Epstein.

As for your final sentence, that may be the dumbest thing I ever read. “If you point out Trump’s extremely obvious racism – that makes you the racist. “

  5. The Bent,

It is truly a sign of what an idiotic Trump cultist you are that you attempt to make these pathetic excuses for him.

The nickname would have been good, except that idiot Trump cultist was so stupid he left the ‘w’ out of my last name. Not a surprise an idiot Trump cultist can’t even copy something correctly.

    1. The Bent,

If you think he’s doing great things for this country, you must be an idiot Trump cultist.

  6. Technically they’re nativist rather than racist. But since everybody the Trumpoids want to exclude shares the characteristic of being non-white, they do splendid double duty for whooping up his racist backers.
Nativism isn’t always racist – the original Know Nothings had to very grudgingly admit that the Irish were white – but often goes hand in hand.
And Trump sure as hell identified his base during the Birther thing. To be a full-fledged Birther you had to be stupid or ignorant or credulous or racist, or some combination of those (the nutjob component like Jerome Corsi might not fall into any of those boxes). A little market research, a little branding, a little coarsening of the discourse, and you had Red Cap Nation.

  7. Hmmm….If I say The Dude should go f#&$ himself…who might I be referring to? Same for Trump…it’s obvious who he’s referring to.

  8. Just because something is not nice, and happens to be directed towards a minority, does not make it racist.

Example – I have no idea what race you are, but I think you’re an idiot for thinking it’s racist. In your world, if you’re a white male and I’m a white male, then the statement is fine, but if either of us is a minority of any kind, the comment is racist.

I honestly can’t believe people are this stupid, yet there seem to be millions of you.

    1. Assuming an American citizen, born in the United States, must not be an American citizen because they’re a minority, is the very definition of racism.

Yet, you clearly don’t understand that.

Yes, you really are that stupid.

      1. From wiki:
Racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another. It may also include prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone because they are of a different race or ethnicity, or the belief that members of different races or ethnicities should be treated differently.

If they (four American citizens, three of whom were born in the United States) don’t like it here, they can go back to from where they came.”

That comment is the very definition of racism.

Trump says these things both because he’s racist and to get idiots like you worked up.

    2. Again. Trump’c comments are not only racist, but are the litmus test of racism. If you treat one race different from another, that is racism by definition. With non-white people, Trump wants them to “go home” (even when their home is obviously America). With Norwegians, he wants more of them to come here. It’s not possible to be more racist than that without using the n-word.

Of course, I also remember reading that a significant percentage of white Americans don’t think using the n-word makes them racist, and that they should be able to use it because non-whites use it.

Frankly, the Trump era has been a shock for me. I always knew there was a hard core of racists inside America, but I never dreamed the numbers were so large.

        1. If only mental gymnastics made people’s minds stronger, fwald, instead of just helping them believe whatever they want to believe. Or, in this case, whatever white supremacists tell them to believe.

    1. Idiot Trump supporter logic:

A.Telling an American citizen to ‘go home’ is not racist. Don’t be so ‘politically correct.’

      Also
B.How dare you call me deplorable. I’m offended!

I honestly didn’t think it was possible for anybody to be this stupid. Yet there seem to be millions of them.

    2. Of course it is, unless you would also tell a Norwegian and Irishman or a Scot to go home. But Trump doesn’t say that. He wants more of them. Any time you come up with special language for one particular group of people that is racist by definition.

“Go back where you came from” is not only racist, but it is the litmus test of racism.

What makes it even worse in this case is that the place they need to go back to is America. By telling them to go back “home,” Trump is implying that they are not American.

    3. In reference to: “The comments were not racist, telling someone to go home is not racist.”

Our government disagrees. They specifically mention “Go back to where you came from” as an example of unlawful bigotry.

  9. So let’s take a quick poll then shall we. Do you, Brobonk, think Trump’s comments where racist, and how does that increase or decrease your support for the man?

  10. According to Rasmussen today, 1 out of 3 democrats say any white criticism of a colored politician is racist. Seems like TDS is really driving these people off the deep end!
