Author: Paul Ryan saw retirement as an ‘escape hatch’ from Trump

As a wimp myself, I have to say that Paul Ryan has really been an inspiration to me and my fellow spineless cowards everywhere.

The book does have a few good anecdotes:

” Trump finally gave in to signing a 2018 spending bill that didn’t include border wall funding only after Ryan agreed to give him time to build suspense on Twitter.”

As far as the “escape hatch” quote, a spokesperson for Ryan said those are the words of the author, not the former representative. “He’s been very clear that he retired because he wanted to spend more time being a father and a husband.” (Followed by suppressed laughter and muffled coughing.)

  1. I’ve read some of the advanced quotes from the book. Paul Ryan is a pathological liar. If he were really as concerned about Trump as he now claims to be, at a minimum, he had a duty to alert the American people of his concerns, and given what he says his concerns are, he should have initiated the impeachment process against Trump.

I think what’s going on here, is that Paul Ryan knows the Washington press corps loved him for a long time as they regarded him as a wonkish intellectual. (any Republican politician who reads a book is called by the Washington press corps a wonkish intellectual no matter what the quality of their ideas are. Before Paul Ryan there was Jeb Bush and Newt Gingrich.)

They Washington press corps finally broke from its nonsensical love affair with Ryan after they finally appreciated that he had been lying to them for years about his professed concern with the government budget deficit, however, I think they’ll want to kiss and make up to him over this.

The media loves sensationalist narratives and I think they’ll love going with the idea of Donald Trump, the bad person, vs. Paul Ryan, the good person. I don’t know if anybody in the public will care about this or buy into it, but I think that’s a large part of what Paul Ryan wants to do.

Obviously I think his end game is to run for the Presidency in 2020 if Donald Trump ends up in a psych ward, or 2024 otherwise.
