Here is a fact that should make you weep with despair

40% of the country agrees with Trump’s assertion that “‘Progressive’ Democratic Congresswomen” should “go back” to their countries.

Three of the four were born in America. The other did not come from “her country,” but from a refugee camp in Kenya where her family had to live for four years when she was a child.

40%!

Five years ago I would have guessed that 5-10% of Americans would support a statement like this, which is not only racist, but stupid. (Exactly which country should they go back to?)

40% !

I probably disagree with more than half of the positions Ilhan Omar has taken, and strongly disagree with some of them, but she’s an American, she certainly has the right to those positions, and she was elected by people who knew her positions and sent her to Washington to further them.

  1. Whoops, Scoop, you accidentally left out the 2nd sentence: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how.”

How many racists ask you to return?

Trump is glad to take a few lumps along the way if it helps the overall big picture. In this case, he got the dems to rally behind 4 anti-American thugs. Trump has laid waste to the democrat party (and it’s about to get much worse)!

  2. I would have said that AOC should go back where she came from (she was born in the Bronx) because she represents part of the Bronx and I read somewhere she had spent very little time in her district since she was elected (I have no way to judge the accuracy of that claim however). But I live in the Bronx, so I’m fine if she doesn’t visit often. Just for the record, the Democratic Representative I vote against every 2 years is Elliot Engle, not AOC.

More seriously, while I believe “the Squad” is more than deserving of criticism, Trump’s comments were reprehensible. That seems to happen a lot with this president, he says or does something I can ALMOST agree with. For instance, I believe there are people of good character on both sides of the issue as to whether or not the statues of Confederate leaders/generals or other slave owners should be taken down. But Trump had to say that about both sides at a White Nationalist Rally/counter protest. Sometimes, I will give him the benefit of the doubt figuring he may have misspoken (he’s not that smart after all.) While I will not give him that benefit here, it seems possible to me that at least a percentage of that 40% are looking past what Trump said and answering based on their opinion of the congresswomen themselves. But it’s also true that a (too high) percentage of people in this country will support Trump no matter what he says or does.

    1. “I read somewhere she had spent very little time in her district since she was elected”

Her job is to represent her constituents at the Federal level. That means living in Washington.

Here’s a question though. Since the 2018 election has AOC spent more time in the Bronx than Trump has spent at Mar Lago?

  3. 40% will agree with him on anything. Good news: 40% doesn’t win you shit in elections.
