“You said rape twice.”

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) defended banning abortion with no exceptions for cases of rape or incest on Wednesday by arguing that most of the world wouldn’t exist without rape or incest.”

This is almost completely consistent with the position of those who believe the bible is literally true. I say “almost” because a literalist would correct King and say, “Not MOST, but ALL. Brother-sister incest is the only possible source of the human race. The only way Cain and Seth could have taken wives was by marrying their sisters. The only way Adam and Eve’s children could have procreated was by marrying each other.”

  1. On further checking, I find that Google gave me the answer for the number of US Senators in 2018 and not 2019. Adam Tondowsky is completely correct, and I am guilty of assuming a computer would give the answer I wanted without specifying the question beyond possibility of misinterpretation. Some things have not changed in 50+ years.

  2. Once again, I am startled by the kind of person someone has to be to be a Republican. Sure, in any party there are people who say vile and stupid things. And some of those people hold elected office, because there are a lot of elected offices. But there are only 100 US Senators, and only 51 are Republicans. And one of them is this guy, and another is Mitch McConnell, who is beginning to be called “Moscow Mitch” for good reason. Jeebus.

    1. 1.There are presently 53 Republican Senators, not 51.

2.Steve King is a member of the House of Representatives (from Western Iowa) and not a Senator. However, the almost as equally crazy Republican, Joni Ernst, is a Senator from Iowa, as is the almost as corrupt as Mitch McConnell, Charles Grassley.

I’ve say this frequently about the Republican Party, when people engage in false equivalence that ‘the Democratic Party is just as bad as the Republicans’: people outside the United States, and maybe even many inside the United States, don’t appreciate just how extreme the Republican Party is.

If Hitler was a 10/10 on the extreme scale, and Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell and Steve King say an 8.5, the average Republican Congressperson (House and Senate) is an 8. The Republican party extreme is their mainstream.

      1. This tweet sums it up even better:

The left is debating how best to provide universal healthcare and tackle climate change.

The right is debating about a whites-only Statue of Liberty and the pros and cons of incest and rape.

But it’s the left that’s radical?

      2. 1) Adam Tondowsky says: “There are presently 53 Republican Senators, not 51.”

I Googled the question “How many Republican US Senators are there?”before I posted my comment. I got the answer “2018 Senate Election Interactive Map. The U.S. Senate has 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats (including two independents).” If that is wrong, take it up with Google.

        2) You are completely right that King is a Representative and not a Senator. That weakens my point, since there are nearly 200 of them, not just 51. On the other hand, Louie Gohmert is one of them, and he places a tremendous amount of weight on the scale.

        1. Steve King
          Louie Gohmert
          Matt Gaetz
          Jim Jordan
          Mark Meadows
          Mo Brooks…

Michael said earlier that Donald Trump and Steve King make it look bad for all the other Republicans. To use the joke about lawyers, it’s far more accurate to say the 99% of corrupt, extreme or just outright loony Republicans make it look bad for the rest.

Mo Brooks is so corrupt Republican Primary voters were more concerned about his and Luther Strange’s corruption that they preferred the loony and extreme Roy Moore. (Roy Moore’s sexual activities were not widely known at the time of the Republican primary.)
