The name Andreescu reminded me of a juicy historical nugget I ran across earlier this week.
In WWI an order was supposedly issued that no one in the Romanian Army below the rank of major was allowed to wear makeup into battle. I followed this up and it seems there is an ongoing controversy about its genuineness.
The Romanian Army traditionally gets bad press. Best negative comment I can remember was by a French attaché in Bucharest between the Wars :
” Hommes sans honeur, femmes sans pudeur.” (Men without honor, women without shame).
Only thing I know for sure is that if you search “Romanian Army makeup”,
you will find some real honeys.
