The Jets honor Joe Willie

In that very special 50th Anniversary Monday Night tribute to Namath’s famous Super Bowl triumph, the Jets lost 23-3 at home to the Cleveland Fucking Browns.

Super Joe had some harsh words for his former team. Earlier on Monday, the Jets tweeted happy birthday to safety Bennett Jackson, but then the team cut Jackson hours later and deleted the tweet. Namath quote-tweeted a comment with his thoughts on the situation during Monday Night Football.

“The first words I ever heard from Don Maynard at Shea Stadium in 1965 were, ‘Son, this is a cold blooded business,’” Namath wrote. “‘When they’re finished with ya they won’t even shake your hand goodbye.’ Of course this business may have changed. Just not on birthdays.”

There’s only one bright spot in the Jets future this season – they will get to play Miami twice.

  1. Browns fans know all about that kind of perfect season. Almost had two of them in a row.
I have a distant connection to the 72 Dolphins. One of them damn near killed me in high school. I was a real fast but real small kid (grew later, TG) in a pickup game with some Stow kids. They had this big Hungarian kid who got into our secondary running the ball, not terribly fast. I tried my usual take an oblique angle, come in fast, hit high, hang on and wait for help thing. He shrugged or something. I have never hit the ground so hard – first time I ever “saw stars”. Csonka (who was not yet a fulltime RB).

  2. Dude you’re hopeless.

“I don’t expect people who idolize Hollywood pedophiles to be up to date on the Browns’ roster”??? Who in the hell here are you talking about? Personally my attitude toward Hollywood-style limo liberalism is somewhere between snark and sneer. But abusing women seems to be a lot bigger thing there than pedophilia. And after last week there should be some remaining skepticism about the Browns, but I thought Scoop was pushing it.
Being an Upstater he’s probably an AFL guy. The Golden Wheels Dubenion Effect.

    1. Worse than that. Lifetime Dolphins fan. (My kids grew up in Miami, and we were there for the perfect season.)

      Ouch!

Although they seem to have a chance at a perfect season again this year, just not the kind you hope for.

  3. Browns still get shit on, even when they win. But I’ll let it pass, only because this isn’t a sports site. I don’t expect people who idolize Hollywood pedophiles to be up to date on the Browns’ roster. It’s easier to just re-hash the late night jokes from the past 20 years.

  4. 1. Boozer and Snell won that game not Joe Willie. And the absolute overconfidence of the Colts helped. Second time the Shula Colts did that in a championship game in a 4-year stretch. I was present the other time – best sports memory of my life. 12-27-64. Some other team 27 the Colts 0. Blanton Collier and Dr. Ryan’s masterpiece. A 43-point swing from the betting line.
    2. The Browns aren’t Super Bowl material yet but “Cleveland Fucking Browns”? That’s pushing it.

    1. Ya know, I followed Joe Willie’s career and kinda rooted for him, and I have to say that he always disappointed me. That guy was really not much of a quarterback.

But he had his 15 minutes.

30, if you count CC and Company.
