It appears that Syria and Turkey are now at war.

Any full-scale war is bad, but this one has repercussions for the USA: Turkey is a member of NATO, and thus ostensibly our ally. Syria under Assad is our enemy.

But …

In this case it is possible to argue that the Syrians are the good guys. Two reasons: (1) They are defending their own borders against the invading Turks; (2) They have swept in to be a white knight and prevent the genocide of the Kurds, who really were our allies until about a week ago.

Of course the Kurds can’t trust Syria, but then again they couldn’t really trust us either, could they? They took the only road open to them.

In other words, it’s a shitshow, and a probable lose-lose for America.

    1. Hear hear. The US had an objective and it was working. Those 50 soldiers were serving their purpose at a low cost. Then for God knows what reason the OB goes creative. As a poster on the WAPO put it yesterday:
“You figured that at some point this creature’s “unmatched” sleaziness, ignorance, and stupidity would all come together to produce something like this.
The rest of the world, particularly potential allies, will remember this squalid episode for a long time to come. The Brits pulled the same crap on their Austrian and Dutch allies back in the early 1700s and have never managed to shake the label of “Perfidious Albion” ever since.
And I still haven’t figured how the Orange Buffoon thought this would end well.”
And you find the most important thing in all this is that the media has an objective. My god, how did the Ohio educational system turn out such a clown as yourself?

      1. Of COURSE the media has an objective: to report the truth. I think he’s garbled the usual bullshit talking point that the media has an *agenda*.

My wife’s a teacher, don’t come at the educators over this. Social promotion is real. They’d catch all kinds of shit if they flunked out everyone who didn’t master the material.

  1. So our 50 soldiers we had stationed in N. Syria were keeping all out war from breaking out? Come on, haven’t you learned the media has an objective here?

For further proof, look at the ABC News story from Sunday night / GMA Monday morning, “Slaughter in Syria”. They show us what appears to be a ferocious nighttime attack, in what would have to be hundreds of poor innocent Kurds being wiped out…only one problem…

The video is a live-fire training exercise in Kentucky in 2017. Only difference is that ABC News changed made the “new” version darker and cropped out the people standing around with their phones. I guess it wouldn’t be too believable that it’s all out war, if there are spectators casually standing around!

ABC News has pulled the video and expressed their “regret” for getting caught spreading the most fake news to date. They are resorting to outright lies to pull at our heart strings.

BTW, there’s side-by-sides of the two videos all over twitter since the othercrap audience won’t want to take my word for it.

  2. Somebody had better cue the Orange Buffoon in on the concept of “trip wire” troops. He took a not totally great situation and turned it real bad real fast, screwing our allies in the process as he always did to his counterparties back when he was a bumbling businessman.
And all this on top of the whole SA/Iran/Yemen thing, which is not at all going great for our “friend” MBS.
But wait – we have a talent of great and almost unmatched wisdom (only exceeded by his father-in-law) available to fix this mess. JARED!!!!!
    As Warren Zevon put it,
    “Whenever there’s a crisis
The President sends his envoy in
    Guns in Damascus
    Oh, Jerusalem
Nuclear arms in the Middle East
    Israel is attacking the Iraqis
The Syrians are mad at the Lebanese
And Baghdad do whatever she please
Looks like another threat to world peace
    For the envoy
    Send the envoy
    Send for me”.
And if that doesn’t work, there’s always lawyers, guns, and money.

    1. Any post about Trump and Zevon is incomplete without a reference to “My Shit’s Fucked Up”.

  3. Total shitshow. The US will come out of it a greatly diminished power. And everyone should be reminded that the US has tactical nukes in Turkey that Erdogan can hold hostage. Trump in his infinite wisdom failed to remove them before the start of the shitshow.
