Always reminded me of Paul Lynde, Charles Nelson Reilly, et al: gay guys in an era where they could act gay but not come out, who were most famous for game show appearances. Only difference is, they had some talent, but I could never see any in Rip. Throwing confetti randomly just never struck me as funny, and that was his only shtick. My guess is he and Rip Torn were often confused for each other, which is funny, since the mercurial Torn probably would’ve beat the shit out of him if they’d ever met, just on the grounds of being flamboyantly annoying.
