The Nationals are in (already!)

They basically had the game won in the first inning when they exploded for seven runs. Their sweep of the Cardinals means that they now have about a week to rest up while the Astros and Yankees sort things out.

The Astros won last night, as Gerrit Cole extended his amazing win streak. He didn’t dazzle this time, but he kept the Yankees off the scoreboard and got the job done. Stros up 2-1.

  1. I was thinking of going but had a $500 limit. Oh well Charlie and Dave on the radio and the sound turned off on the tv should work just fine. Did make it to the home opener in 2005. LIvo and the 50mph curve.
My old man and I had a running argument for 30 years after I moved down here from NE OH, two years after the Senators left. He said DC was a bad baseball town and would never get a team, particularly with the Chocolate City demographics. I said that the problem was two very bad ownerships – one the Griffiths who were cheap, nepotistic, and always ready to go somewhere else for “considerations” and the other Bob Short (as in short on cash) a politically connected (ex DNC chairman) scuzzball who was paid by the locals to move to Texas and then badmouthed DC at every chance. Our very own earlier take on Art Modell. Later on there was the odious little troll in Baltimore, Peter Angelos, who tried to block baseball in DC while denying he was doing so.
I would have had the greatest ever I-told-you-so in 2005 but Dad had checked out 5 months earlier.

  2. $800 for SRO tickets. And if they end up against the Yankees, that price may go up several multiples.

  3. The Nats had a 6-0 lead over the Cards in the last game of the NLDS in 2012 and blew it. But no Pete Kozma shit this year. Next Friday will mark the first WS game in DC since the sixth month of FDR’s first term. We’re stoked.
