Doctor Sleep never woke up

Box office: The sequel to The Shining failed to emit even a faint gleam.

Profitability: “‘Doctor Sleep’ Set To Lose $20M+ For Warner Bros. In Trio Of Fall Duds. It’s the third dud from the Burbank lot in a row this fall after wide releases The Goldfinch (a reported $50M loss) and Motherless Brooklyn (studio’s exposure is less than 25% on the $26M production, which has only rung up $7.5M WW to date).”

  1. It’s probably not a great idea to make a sequel to a movie made nearly forty years ago. The Blade Runner sequel suffered a similar fate. I’m old enough to remember when the Third Godfather movie bombed.

  2. Ha ha, ok you’ve got me on that one. Viva Shelley if Rosie is the alternative, or Kathy Griffin.

  3. I think the simple problem is that The Shining was already made. When the blurbs for the movie show the iconic “Here’s Johnny!” ax-in-the-door scene and it’s not Jack, well, they’re begging for failure. On the other hand though, ANY actress in Shelley Duvall’s part has gotta be better than her.

      1. I know it’s supposed to be a horror movie, but there are LIMITS, man. Forget the children, won’t someone PLEASE think of the grown-ups?
