On March 10, 1945, starting just after midnight, more than three hundred B-29 bombers flying at a mere 500 feet of altitude, rained incendiary bombs on parts of metropolitan Tokyo, killing between 90,000 and 130,000 civilians.

That is slightly lower than the death toll at Hiroshima, but higher than the number from Nagasaki.

There have been many crazy days on the Street lately. This was another. The Dow took back half of yesterday’s losses, but it took quite a route to get there.

By 9:35, it was up 904 points

It then dropped 1032 points in the next two hours, and was actually below yesterday’s nadir for a while.

It then jumped 1295 points between 11:40 and closing.
