April 14th. After Trump criticized the World Health Organization for praising China’s supposed transparency, he was asked about the fact that he did the same thing. His response: “I don’t talk about China’s transparency.”

But …

  1. This is example number what of barefaced, witless lying for Trump? Ten times the number of days he has been in office, or 100? I can no longer think of anything new to say, because it has all been said so often before.

I got upset with a friend the other day because he felt it was interesting to know why Trump supporters were Trump supporters. He was right, of course, and I should not have gotten upset. But the way Trump supporters accept anything he does and continue to support him makes me not care about them any more.

Trump does not even seem to tell lies like this with contempt for the public; he seems just like a child, saying whatever is good for him at the moment, without even considering that he may have said something different in the past. When someone points that out to him, he just shrugs it off or has a little tantrum because they are being “nasty” to him. His supporters seem to take delight in this. And I am supposed to care why they are the way they are?

And yet we need to know. “Those who do not understand history are doomed to repeat it.” As much as I despise people like that, we need to know why they are like that, and how we can avoid a new generation of them.

Note to self: call Trump tantrums “tantrumps”.

    1. I think you’re giving him too much credit. It’s not that he “lies”. He just says whatever he imagines will make him look good without ever even considering whether or not it is true.
Near as I can tell, his supporters see him as someone who has done what they all wish they could: phone it in, use bullshit in place of work, yet not starve. You know – the American Dream. He is living proof that being a drooling moron is a viable career path. They’re not going to let go of that.

      1. Nature Mom, I agree with your first paragraph. That is what I was trying to say.

About your second paragraph, I don’t know. Ii’s easy to talk about people being like that, but that seems more like a caricature than a real person. Trump did get something like 47% of the popular vote, after all.

        1. Sure not every last one of the millions of parts of the problem are identical, but just as a broad-strokes first guess. It’s the exceptions to this that have the most hope of pulling their heads out.
