UPDATED: FBI serves a warrant on a senator in an investigation of insider trading

Federal agents seized a cell phone belonging to Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) as part of a Justice Department probe into stock transactions he made ahead of the sharp market downturn stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.”

Two things are of concern: (1) Burr’s communications with those in a position to make his stock transactions; (2) Burr’s communications with his brother-in-law, who made similar transactions on the exact same day.

UPDATE: Burr stepped down as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Burr returned fire on the executive branch:

  1. The one thing Burr is definitely guilty of is hypocrisy in that he made public statements saying not to panic and that Covid 19 wouldn’t be too bad. Then he sold his stock. But a politician’s hypocrisy and dishonest statements to the public (as opposed to a federal agent) are not crimes. The question for the justice department is whether Burr’s decision to divest was based on knowledge gained in classified briefings or was it based on public knowledge about the virus. I think it may be difficult to prove beyond a reasonable doubt the decision was based on insider/classified knowledge. But if his phone records show him calling his broker immediately after attending a classified briefing about Covid 19, they may be able to convict him. But most likely his punishment, if any, would come when he is up for reelection. That is if he runs. While running for his 3rd term in 2016, he said he wouldn’t run for a 4th term in 2022. He might actually keep that promise now.

    1. Burr is no more guilty than Flynn…unfortunately for Burr, justice is no longer blind in the US.

  2. Nothing to see here. All he has to do is kiss Trump’s ass some more and Dollar Bill Barr will fix things.

    1. Actually, people are claiming that this is Trump (through Barr) actually going after Burr because as head of the Senate Intelligence Committee, he didn’t burry the Russian meddling investigations.

      1. Well, that explains Brobonk’s and Midwest Conservative’s reactions. They got the memo and have leaped to follow instructions.

      2. Right, but all he has to do is turn lickspittle and Trump and Moscow Mitch will call off the dogs.

  3. Burr just stepped down as chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee. This guy is as bad as it gets. Typical RINO Trump hater. He’s not much better than Romney.

Drain the swamp doesn’t just mean democrats.

    1. Here’s your swamp:

      [

The U.S. government has paid at least $970,000 to President Trump’s company since Trump took office — including payments for more than 1,600 nightly room rentals at Trump’s hotels and clubs, according to federal records obtained by The Washington Post.

Since March, The Post has catalogued an additional $340,000 in such payments. They were almost all related to trips taken by Trump, his family and his top officials. The government is not known to have paid for the rooms for Trump and his family members at his properties but it has paid for staffers and Secret Service agents to accompany the president.]

This isn’t counting the $138,000,000 he’s spent on golfing. It’s not enough to burn taxpayers money, he has to funnel it to his own businesses.

Like Howard Stern said, Trump wouldn’t be caught dead in any of his supporters houses or rural towns. Why are you so quick to bend over and take it up the ass from this guy?

      1. You should heed the warning inherent in this, Brobonk. Your friends are quite willing to throw you under the bus, and your rivals (do you have rivals in the field of Trump defending?) are EAGER to do it.
