Dame Vera Lynn, singer and ‘forces’ sweetheart’, dies aged 103

There are not many living symbols of WW2 left. Now there is one less.

“Dame Vera Lynn, whose song We’ll Meet Again became an anthem of hope and resilience during the second world war, has died aged 103.”

And Pink Floyd sang about her:

  1. Does anyone here remember Vera Lynn
    Remember how she said,
    We would meet again
    Some sunny day

    1. Roger Waters may be the best lyricist in rock music, save Lennon/McCartney. It’s really a shame that he and David Gilmour never could work or their differences and find a way to put aside their egos. Like Lennon & McCartney, they were far superior together than apart. Gilmour’s music was much better than anything Rogers ever wrote, but his lyrics pale in comparison.

      1. What? Better than the dude in America?
“‘Cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain”
Actually a Ray Davies man myself.

  2. I can’t think of any right off except, kind of, Princess Elizabeth. The Byrds covered her biggieist – 55 years ago.
Waterloo Day. No ABBA, he didn’t surrender, just scuttled off to Paris, then scuttled off to the coast, and then was nabbed by the Brits.
Nosey/The Peer/The Long-Nosed Bugger What Whips The French (Wellington) was Anglo-Irish and born in Ireland. When anyone twitted him about it he would say that just because you were born in a barn didn’t mean you were a horse.
Will eat a “biftec” (the Frogs called the Brit troops “biftec goddams) tonight in his honor and for one of his Irish sergeants – my great great’s uncle. His eye for value at Vittoria eventually meant that my gg didn’t have to come over in steerage.
