Remember Biosphere 2. Here’s what happened to it

Several scientists lived in it for two years. That was back in the early 90s. It’s now owned by a university and they are still maintaining it:

  1. I recommend another video on Biosphere 2

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emCFWC75IF0

A few notable quotes from that video and some commentary

    Quotes:

“Would you really be surprised if I told you that the humans were the biggest problem?”

“The scarcity of coffee beans meant that coffee was a once a week pleasure.”

“Making a pizza took around four months while the wheat grew and matured.”

“By the halfway point in the [first] mission the group had split into two factions.”

    My commentary:

The second mission was even more of a fiasco. The first manager got fired, escorted off site by U.S. Marshals and was replaced with Steve Bannon. President Trump’s chief strategist ran the second Biosphere mission for five months (two months less than he managed to stay in the White House). Bannon’s tenure saw the most famous act of Biosphere vandalism. Two of the original mission participants broke into the site and sabotaged the second mission by opening one of the airlocks and breaking a few windows thereby contaminating the site with outside air. They successfully sued the company Bannon worked for, winning $600,000 minus the $40,000 in damage they had caused.

    One final quote:

“By 2007, [Biosphere 2] had passed to Arizona University who continue to use it to this day. There are currently two main studies underway at Biosphere 2 none of them involve locking humans inside.”
