Chris Rock’s monologue

Other sketches:

The Drew Barrymore Show

News anchors (Heidi Gardner, Mikey Day) report on a COVID-19 superspreader event. (That’s the official description. This is really about people who want to change their names, and the skit is filled with various raunchy lines like the female anchor saying, “I hope you can find Mike Litt later”)

Stunt performers (Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Mikey Day, Chris Redd, Ego Nwodim) plea with everyone to take precautions against COVID-19 so they can return to work.

Women (Megan Thee Stallion, Maya Rudolph, Aidy Bryant, Heidi Gardner, Chloe Fineman, Lauren Holt, Punkie Johnson) compete to get drafted into the NBA bubble.

A ghost (Chris Rock) visits a teenager (Kyle Mooney) to warn him about his future.

A group of rappers (Kenan Thompson, Chris Redd, Pete Davidson) perform a song about wanting to see their girlfriends’ (Megan Thee Stallion, Ego Nwodim) faces.

One thought on “SNL Season Opener

  1. I thought the whole show was amazingly lame; so bad I had to turn it off at 12:30. There’s way too many cast members and now they added 3 more, just to keep protestors happy: “ok we need another gay, and let’s make her a female black to kill 3 birds with one stone, and also another ugly fat-ass to replace Aidy when she leaves.” I’m okay with it if even just a few sketches are funny, but after having had months to write for a season premiere, they come up with a stinker like that?! Compare Carrey heavily made-up trying to look & sound exactly like Biden, with Aykroyd doing Jimmy Carter in his street clothes with a mustache; the latter was much funnier. Hopefully they can do a little better this year. One step in the right direction would be to stop the endless rap segments; desperate attempts to “connect with today’s youth” musically. You can just picture them around the writing table: “We have no material.” “Ok let’s write some more funny raps and get the black cast members to do them.” And Lorne Michaels says “Hey, fabulous idea, let’s do 3 this week, that’ll kill 15 minutes right there. And make sure the musical guest is a dumb-ass talentless rapper too.”
