Tanya Roberts, That ’70s Show and Charlie’s Angels Actress, Dead at 65

“Roberts reportedly collapsed at home following a walk with her dogs on Christmas Eve, a rep for Roberts told TMZ. She was hospitalized and put on a ventilator, but never recovered. The official cause of death is currently unknown.”

Few women contributed more to the celebrity nudity quest, in terms of both quantity and quality. She was a beauty.

  1. I remember Tanya Roberts for one of the tiniest things in her resume, a movie named “Fingers” in which Harvey Keitel played a pianist/hoodlum character named Jimmy Fingers and fingered Roberts (physically, not to the cops, and under clothing).

It was released in 1978, so Roberts would only have been about 22 or 23 when it was made. She was gorgeous. It’s not worth getting just to see her, because she basically had a bit part, but it stuck in my mind.

  2. She’s the Generalissimo Francisco Franco of our time!

(I know it’s lame repeating it here but I didn’t want it to go to waste in the empty thread.)

    1. Y’all. This is a wild one. Tanya Roberts’ rep, who had sent a press release out announcing the death of the former Bond Girl and That ‘70s Show actress, now tells TMZ he was given bad information. “The rep had told us she died Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A.,” reads a new story from TMZ. “He told us Tanya’s husband had informed him that Tanya had passed. We even got a quote from the rep from Tanya’s husband, Lance, saying, ‘As I held her in her last moments, she opened her eyes.’” Now the rep tells the outlet that Roberts’ husband got a call just after 10 a.m. Monday from the hospital saying Tanya was still alive.

  3. I’m not sure the info being put out now is accurate. It’s been said by her close friend that she was paranoid about Covid & only left her house 3 times last year, which seems unbelievable, esp. since there’s no evidence she was sick. Same guy also rushed to say Covid didn’t kill her, despite that her cause of death is unknown at this time and she was put on a ventilator. This is what happens when one dies suddenly and someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about is the one making the statements.

  4. I remember her on Charlie’s Angels as a kid. She had started her jaunt into straight to video movies in the mid to late 80’s around the time my parents got me a VCR. Like Shannon Tweed, her films were always must rent no matter how bad they might be. Tanya always made it worth the time and the rental fee. She was absolutely gorgeous, but it was that kind of raspy tone she had in her voice that made it all so much better for me. I was so happy to see her resurgence later on in That 70’s Show, she was perfect as Midge Pinciotti. Midge reminded me how mesmerizing a woman in a nice fitting sweater could be. She will not be soon forgotten.

  5. 65 once seemed pretty old to me. My grandfather died at age 64. But my mother, though in poor health still lived to be 79. Tanya Roberts seemed much too young to die. But you can say that about a lot of people in the last year.

On the subject of her onscreen nudity, I believe, though I could be mistaken, that her nudity in Sheena was a partial reason for the introduction of the PG-13 rating. At least I remember it being cited in news accounts as a reason along with monkey brains eating scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Though I could be wrong because a little googling tells me the PG-13 rating was introduced on July 1, 1984 but Sheena wasn’t released until August of that year. Of course I could be mixing up Sheena with Beastmaster which was released in 1982. Both films were rated PG despite relatively long topless scenes. I was 14 in 1982 and found Tanya Roberts a welcome surprise in that movie. I was a fan of the Andre Norton novel the movie was (very) loosely based on. The novel was about a retired space commando with telepathic links to a team of animals. But other than the title and the same animals on the team there were few if any similarities. That probably made it easier to enjoy the movie without comparing it to the book. Tanya really helped with that enjoyment. May she rest in peace.
