Which NFL fans drink the most?

The “winner” is ….

Given that the three cities in the Green Bay area are the three drunkest in America, and that Wisconsin has 12 of the 20 drunkest cities, it’s surprising that Packer fans finish a poor 15th out of 32 NFL franchises.

  1. I bet Cleveland was higher before an actual NFL-quality team team showed up last year. They didn’t call that place The Factory of Sadness for nothing.
But from what I’ve heard talking to friends still up there is that the current stadium is not nearly as bad in terms of wind. In the old place you didn’t always drink on account of the team being bad- it often wasn’t – but because of the bitter cold wind off the lake.
When the brilliant (not) Steelers QB Bubby Brister was asked upon being traded away what was his most vivid memory of playing in Three Rivers, he actually said “the wind off the lake”. The Burgh having rivers but no lake, it seems that Lake Erie was living rent-free in Bubby’s head.

  2. You’d also have to factor in how vigorously each stadium enforces drink regulations. I know that for example they cracked down really hard in New England a couple of decades ago after some bad experiences.

  3. Some of these fanbases just have more to drink *about*. I’m impressed that Detroit managed to finish so far down.
