Even now, he’s still insinuating how stupid he thinks most Sopranos fans are. I’ve never faulted him for that. You do a show with tons of depth, and most people are only going to be attracted to the superficiality: the mob hits & so on. He feels like almost everything else was lost on commoners. He put together a brilliant ending for the show, with Tony having some subtle Kubrickian metaphysical experiences and then dying offscreen, and viewers get pissed because we didn’t see Tony’s head blown off. No wonder the guy doesn’t want to talk about it much. He feels like explaining it is just gonna be wasted words.
