Excellent nudity from Allie Marie Adams in the first episode of Gaslit

This is the highly touted new series about Watergate, featuring Julia Roberts as Martha Mitchell, Sean Penn as John Mitchell, Betty Gilpin as John Dean’s wife, Patton Oswalt as his lookalike Chuck Colson, etc.

Allie Marie Adams is the innovative casting as Richard Nixon. Who knew Tricky Dick also had a Tricky Cooch? (I’m just fuckin’ witcha. I don’t think Nixon is portrayed. That said, she would be a massive upgrade from the original Nixon.)

  1. Slate / Slowburn did a series of podcasts on Watergate. Search for slate podcast. The first in the series is Martha Mitchell’s story. Really interesting. Nixon is quoted as saying, in his Interview with David Frost, that “without Martha, there wouldn’t have been a Watergate scandal”. Most of what she said was subsequently proven to be true.
The podcast is well worth seeking out.

  2. I’m excited for this series. I forget if it’s in All the President’s Men, or Woodward and Bernstein’s sort of sequel (the apparently higher selling in first printing anyway, but now seemingly largely forgotten) The Final Days, but Martha Mitchell is described as a very colorful and eccentric person with a lot of interesting and rather cryptic things to say about the Nixon Administration. I’m not sure if even now much of what she said has been verified.

I don’t know if there have been any previous movies or documentaries about Martha Mitchell.
