Crazy theories about the Texas shooting

The shooter was not an illegal alien, unless you consider North Dakota a foreign country, because that’s where he was born.

The shooter was not a transgender person. All of the photos purporting to show that are clearly identified as completely different people, who are understandably pissed off about how their pictures are being used.

It goes without saying that this was not a false flag operation. 19 aggrieved sets of parents are mourning the loss of 19 fourth graders. These parents are joined in grief to the friends and families of two educators.

The crazy begins. Leading the charge has been the ever gullible Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona, who spread two of the three rumors in a single tweet, claiming that the shooter was a “transsexual leftist illegal alien.” In the past Gosar has supported various lunatic theories by tweeting doctored photos and once famously declaring that Antifa was responsible for storming the Capitol on Jan 6.

  1. You missed the point as about as completely as a point can be missed. The Republican’s had no platform except maybe “whatever is cool with Trump is cool with us”. “America first” (which phrase has a very unsavory place in American history) simply modifies “President’s agenda”.

  2. Ahh… yes…The right-wing, authoritarian party and their “centrist” enablers, who will not claim any responsibility when democracy is destroyed because “both sides were corrupt”. Sure, you can find corruption in the Democratic Party. Look at Blagojevich, a guy so corrupt Trump liked him enough to pardon him. There have been corrupt Dems in more recent times too. Anytime there’s the kind of money that politics has, there will be corruption.
But what’s happening right now has been planned and executed over the last 50-60 years. Back then, it was called “The Southern Strategy.” If you ever want to learn about how it was designed to work, you can read all about it in “American Theocracy” by Kevin Phillips. The same guy that designed The Southern Strategy and left the GOP right after GWB was sworn in. And then look at the number of prominent Republicans that have abandoned the party.
It’s the centrists that scare me. The right is literally saying exactly who they are. They no longer care. MTG just won her primary with 70%. The centrists that are 30% of the electorate, and out weigh either party in some areas. If they stay home, the GOP wins in the rural areas and states.

  3. Do you think there is any lie a Republican can tell that will eventually wake GOP voters up to the fact that it is a lie? I don’t think so. I think they wait to hear the lies, so they can go back to feeling they are right about anything and despising the Left and the government and everything but Trump.

I don’t know how they got that way, but they are as set in concrete as the majority of Southerners were in 1861. They had far more comprehensible reasons, although they too acted on the basis of years of political lies.

    1. As an independent, I find an incredible number of nuts in both the Republican and Democrat parties. Many probably don’t want to hear that, but they are both corrupt to the extreme. They are both bought and owned by very big money with career politicians just taking care of their own bank accounts. The system is broke. Each side can continue the believe that they are good and the other side is evil if they want, but that will not solve any problems facing this country. The political landscape in this country has become an embarrassing joke.

      1. I believe that there are a lot of leftist nuts, but do you find a similar number of equally destructive wackos umong the *actual elected officials*?

That seems too much like both-sides-ism to me.

        1. That’s exactly what it is, and it’s the comfort blanket the insurrectionist wing and their sympathizers use for rationalization: “Well, they’re just as bad.”

The left crazies are on the fringe. The right crazies are holding political office, judgeships, and cable network shows.

      2. You are wrong, Stick, and this kind of “both sides are bad” crap serves only the Republicans, who actually want to end democracy. There is a difference between a party with some corruption, and a party that feels letting people who control the concentrated wealth of the nation run everything any way they want is the best possible thing for the country. Look at Russia if you can’t figure out the difference.

BTW, if nobody is good enough for you, what do you propose actually doing? Nothing at all? Like I said, that is pro-GOP. It’s what they crave: low turnout. Do you disagree?

        1. What are you talking about? There’s nothing to even respond to since it’s simply blind hatred. Go have a beer or smoke a joint. Fast.

          1. He’s talking about the Republican ongoing attempt to overthrow the government since last January. Like the Russians (and Soviets) Rs don’t believe in elections. They are trying to suppress voting and enable throwing out ballot results if they lose.
Saying Democrats are also shit, while true, implies that they are the same *kind* of shit, which is false.
As always I am pro-beer and weed, but facts are facts.

          2. I’m not a republican although I’m clearly a conservative. There is certainly a “deplorable” element in the GOP that needs to go but I would say the same thing about some of the lunatics and criminals on the left. I do respect both the overall Democratic Party and GOP. I see logic in both platforms. I’m not going to judge almost half the country for their fringe elements however.

          3. The “logic in both platforms”? Remember the latest R platform is “No stand on any issue, we just like Trump.”, which they are pursuing actively by taking apart our democracy by any means legal or less-so.

Then whining that people are getting judgey / canceling them when this is pointed out

    2. I can’t get into the head of the right-wing crazies. Paul Gosar is not a stupid man, despite all evidence to the contrary. It takes a pretty good brain to get through dental school. So how can he tweet the preposterous, utterly imbecilic things he does? Is he just a pathological liar? Probably not. That’s a rare condition.

So I guess I have concluded that he actually believes the foolish things he says and tweets. He’s a true believer, and the one human characteristic stronger than intellect is belief. He NEEDS to believe that his world-view is correct, so he grasps at any straw that allows him to ignore evidence to the contrary.

I believe this is the nature of true believers. When new evidence directly contradicts or even refutes their belief system, they will not change their beliefs. Instead, they will cling to anything that allows them to defend their beliefs, no matter how irrational.

Suppose the a priori assumption is that there must be no gun control. Every time there is a demonstration of how desperately some new weapons rules are needed, the true believers must find reasons why that demonstration is false. It’s not just that they are sucking on the armament teat. No matter how ridiculous the reasons may be, they have to believe them, so they do, because their entire world is based on an a priori assumption that is a dogmatic matter of faith.

Sure, Antifa stormed the Capitol. That’s the ticket.

To some extent, I am now starting to think that Trump may be a true believer himself, and not just a pathological liar. I think he actually believes that he won the last election, although there is not a scintilla of evidence to support him, because he needs to believe that. Therefore, he will support any theory or any person that corroborates his belief.

      1. There’s definitely something to that. It takes something to challenge your own beliefs. You have to be willing to think through it, wrestle with cognitive dissonance, shake up something that’s allowed you to not have to think about it. It’s way easier to believe something that fits your beliefs than to challenge them. Doesn’t matter what side of the “aisle” you are on. BUT, this shit is next level BS:

      2. Dental school is a trade school just like Med and Law schools. And remember, Rand Paul went to Med School. And I’ve known some really dumb doctors and lawyers.

        1. You know what they call the guy who finishes last in his class at med school? Doctor

      3. For Steverino,
This is the 2020 Republican platform:
“RESOLVED, That the Republican Party has and will continue to enthusiastically support the
        President’s America-first agenda”
        You’re down with that, huh?

        1. I didn’t think it could possibly be real. So, I did my own “research”. Holy fuck!
It’s literally the first resolution of their 4 resolution platform. The RNC effectively doesn’t exist any longer. They decided not to meet and create a platform, but rather putout a 1 page preamble to the 2016 platform. They effectively, or in reality, zoomed it in with:
          RESOLVED, That the Republican Party has and will continue to enthusiastically support the President’s America-first agenda;
          RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention will adjourn without adopting a new platform until the 2024 Republican National Convention;
RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention calls on the media to engage in accurate and unbiased reporting, especially as it relates to the strong support of the RNC for President Trump and his Administration; and
RESOLVED, That any motion to amend the 2016 Platform or to adopt a new platform, including any motion to suspend the procedures that will allow doing so, will be ruled out of order.

Really only the first (back Trump) and last resolutions (fuck you if you try to change anything) matter as resolution 2 is we’re not changing anything until the conference in 2024 and resolution 3 is the media is a lying sack of shit.

        2. Do I support America first? Of course I do. I’m a small government libertarian who believes our taxes and our resources should be used for our tax payers and our citizens. I don’t find the government particularly useful or competent so I’d prefer they didn’t do much of anything and let the free markets do their thing.

          1. Ah, a libertarian: “Libertarians are like housecats: convinced of their fierce independence, but utterly dependent on a system they don’t understand or appreciate”
