Even more mind blowing: the picture represents an area the size of a grain of sand if held at arm’s length.
As a great man once said, “Space is big. You just won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist’s, but that’s just peanuts to space.”
It’s like the theological debate from the Middle Ages about how many angels could fit on the head of a pin, except with galaxies instead of angels.
“The image shows the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 as it appeared 4.6 billion years ago.” That is just staggering.
