  2. I think all patriotic informed Americans should hate Trump for the obvious reasons — being a backstabber to his own country.

    We’re looking at a long list of his wrongdoing here: extorting Ukraine president to find dirt on Bidens by illegally withholding weapon aids for weeks, asking China to help win re-lection, demanding to find 10k extra votes, wanting to seize voting machines, exploring options for illegally declare Marshall law, sending fake electors, riling the violent crowd to sic on Pence, disrupt/attack Congress… (I could be missing others but that’s what I remember)

    However, I think most everyone around the world should hate him, too. Let see…
    – Starting with myself as a Burmese-American, formerly from Burma: shortly after Trump started massive voter frauds with no proof repeated claims, Burmese military dictators borrowed Trump’s playbook by repeating the same lies, took power by force, killed nascent democracy along with thousand of pro-democracy protesters. Junta recently executed former pro-democracy party 4 MPs. Burma’s nascent democracy is gone, many lives lost, thanks in small part (but significant) to Trump.

    – Trump and his goons reversed just about all Obama’s climate change effort policies, most probably out of spite or ignorant reason or both. That cannot be good for the world with a 4 years of damaging policies. Trump believes global warning was a hoax made up by China to put west in a disadvantage.

    – In general, Trump got to be the most corrosive inspirational figure to all the current and future con-artists around the world. “If I can bamboozle, cheat, lie, bully my way all the way to the top and get away, then so can you. When you get caught, just double down and bully” kind of wrong inspirational figure. The guy has super power when it comes to making lies like it’s no big deal and get away with any consequences. He’s acid on human society in general.

          And Trump did try to overthrow the American form of government. So, yes, that makes people angry if they happen to love the American form of government. The very concept of America is not a minor thing. It is such an important thing that it should evoke strong passions. Frankly, if there is any American who is NOT angry about Trump’s sedition, they really don’t care about the American form of government, but just their own tribe or their own comfort.

          I take it you are in that group that simply doesn’t care about the ideals of America. OK, fine. You have contempt for those who are passionate about American democracy, and you have special contempt for those who become angry that one man tried to destroy it and came terrifyingly close to succeeding. That’s fine. I understand that some people are simply not passionate about ideals and abstract ideas in general. All people want what they want, and so some people will support anybody who will deliver that.

          Where I am a bit confused is why you “feel sorry” for those who do love American democracy and those who get angry at anyone who tries to destroy it. As I see it, they should be angry. Moreover, many of those angry guys you dismiss so contemptuously are more conservative than you. They voted for Reagan and McCain, and would vote for DeSantis or Pence. They would vote for Darth Cheney’s daughter, although she is probably more conservative than Trump. This is not about policy. It is about one man, and it appears that the man in question is a traitor, so anger at him seems pretty well justified.

            What is true? Most red states are dumpster fires. Texas is an outlier because it has abundant resources and 150 years ago they set up a sovereign fund to use those resources to fund education. Utah is also in decent shape because the Mormons are pretty serious about taking care of each other. The rest? Fuck you, got mine and 75 years ago they figured out how to grift the Federal government so they wouldn’t have to do any real work themselves.

San Fran has homeless issues but its also expensive and a substantial amount of that is driven by temporary homelessness. NYC is just getting out of a global pandemic where costs have risen but the jobs have not and some of those jobs can be done remotely now. Maybe Bloomberg should’ve addressed NY’s cost of living before leaving office. It wouldn’t be in the mess it is today.

I donā€™t want homeless, criminals, drug addicts, or illegal citizens on my streets. I donā€™t want people living in prime real estate paying a fraction of what hard working Americans pay. Section 8.           13. Crime declined through the majority of DeBlasio’s tenure. There was an uptick in 2020 but even then most major crimes were still below Bloomberg’s entire tenure. NYPD crime statistics are freely available on the internet. If you disagree with them, tough shit. Blame the police. Adams may have gotten elected for being tough on crime but most people only listened to scaremongering without realizing the lowest point in crime in the past 20 years happened under DeBlasio.

            There is no such thing is prime real estate. People need shelter. Period. They need it if they have a great job. They need it if they’re unemployed. So called “prime” real estate is just a manipulation by the wealthy to extract more rent money from the less fortunate. The problem with increasing cranking up people’s rent is that the people living in that area need to be paid more money or those people have to pay for higher transportation costs to offset any rent savings which is also a problem. Not everyone gets to walk to work everyday like I do. Again this is a complex problem and no one does enough to fix it.

            Your problem is you continue to believe solutions in your life are applicable to everyone’s life. Which is horse shit. I don’t tell people they should live their lives like mine. My life is nonsensical to most people. I at least have the self-awareness to realize it and the empathy to understand that everyone’s circumstances are different.
