I miss full-service gas stations.
I miss those Texaco commercials, where every motorist would be mobbed by smiling service station attendants in crisp, clean, freshly pressed uniforms. One guy would check the tires, one would clean the windshield, one lifted the hood to check the oil and water, and another would pump the gas.
I don’t remember a time when real life resembled that, but the commercials were immensely reassuring to us kids. We knew that mom and dad could trust their car to the man who wears the star.
