Who is the most famous person born in your town? Interactive map allows you to click and see

This is kind of a fun time-waster. It is based entirely on where somebody was born, so some people may be associated with surprising places.

As I noted in the comments, many of those people could not have been born in their alleged birthplaces because there are no hospitals there. To illustrate, my parents lived in Irondequoit, NY when my sister was born, but she was born in Rochester, because that’s where the hospitals were. Billionaire Tom Golisano (real name Blase Golisano) is associated with Irondequoit, NY on the linked interactive map, but he was also born in Rochester, based on the same logic that applies to my sister. The official NY State birth records agree, as does Wikipedia.

Per the comments below, I can’t explain why Kid Cudi is associated with Crofton, Maryland. That doesn’t appear to make any sense at all.

  1. Carrie Coon from Copley. Lots of famous folk from OH. My mom grew up in the same neighborhood as Ara Parseghian. My uncle played sandlot football w/Ara.
Ara was Presbyterian so went to Akron South instead of Akron St. Mary’s. St Mary’s merged w/St. V in 1972 to become Akron St. Vincent/St Mary’s. Have two older cousins who went to St. V. There’s a famous basketball star who went to St. V/St. M.

    Six degrees of separation …

btw, Notre Dame doesn’t give a fuck if you’re Catholic only that you win every football game. As Scoopy would say as the good lord intended. đŸ˜‰

No longer a ND fan ~ they can suck an egg!

    1. Copley could usually chase my guys around the field, before my town got ten times bigger. But they never produced a Dante Lavelli.

  2. I don’t need to check.

    I’m from Independence, MO.

I was born at Truman Medical Center, on Truman Rd, which is two miles from the Truman House where Bess still lived at the time and could be spotted gardening most nice days. It’s a few blocks from the Truman Library, which is a few blocks from the square, with its statue of Harry taking one of his famous “constitutionals” as walking around the square was where he came up with the phrase we still use today.

Obviously, the most famous person from my town is George Brett.

    1. The database determines a person’s origin by their place of birth, so Give ‘Em Hell Harry is assigned to the bustling metropolis of Lamar, Missouri.

The winner from Independence is Ginger Rogers.

  3. Their database is entirely based on where someone was born, not necessarily where they lived or grew up. So Houdini doesn’t count for Appleton because he was born in Hungary. And McCarthy was born in Grand Chute.

    1. There isn’t a lot of competition to be the most famous person born in Grand Chute, given that it has no hospital, so everyone from the area is born in Appleton unless they were born at home (which, to be fair, McCarthy was). There probably is no second-most notable person born there. It would be difficult to find any living person born there.

Grand Chute’s mailing address is Appleton, its only post office actually has an Appleton mailing address, its children attend Appleton schools, and almost all meaningful services are provided by Appleton. Grand Chute itself comprises a bunch of non-contiguous blocks scattered helter-skelter through the area, and even the people who live here don’t know which blocks are officially part of Grand Chute unless they are in them. And the only reason somebody would know their own house is in Grand Chute (like mine) rather than Appleton is because that’s who provides their trash pick-up (and some other services)!

The same problem pertains to, for example, Phil Hoffman and Tom Golisano, who are from my home town. They are listed under the places they grew up, not where they were born. It’s pretty difficult to have been be born in Fairport, NY unless you are an animal, given that they had no human hospitals. It’s equally difficult to be born in Irondequoit for the same reason. My parents lived in Irondequoit when my sister was born, but she was born in Rochester because that’s where the hospitals were. The same is true of Golisano. (Wikipedia does correctly list Rochester, not Irondequoit, as Golisano’s birthplace.)

I assume Hoffman was born at Highland Hospital in Rochester, near Fairport, but I don’t know that for a fact. It is possible that he was born at home in Fairport, although a home birth was unlikely in 1967.

      1. Yeah, my parents lived in Globe, AZ (a sleepy copper mining town) when I was born, but there’s no hospital there, so I was born in Miami, AZ (an even smaller, sleepier copper mining town). I don’t think of myself as being “from” Miami, AZ, but that’s what I have to put on official documents.

  4. What’s with this “notability rank” thing? Obama and Trump are ranked 1 and 2, but Jesus Christ is in the 200’s. I’d sure as heck like to know what the criteria are.

    1. Ahh, Jesus, I like him very much, but He no help with curveball.

Are you trying to say Jesus Christ can’t hit a curveball? -Major League

      1. Jesus could hit the curve, but he was pretty slow down the line in the robe and sandals.

        1. And when he finally did get on base, he pretended not to see the steal sign. But he was great at sacrificing, although he would never suicide squeeze

    1. Ok, the actual line is “Barack Obama? Isn’t he from Illinois?”

      SNL skit with The Rock.

  5. I think their data source is fundamentally flawed as well. Kid Cudi is listed as one of the most notable people from my area of my county. But as far as I can tell, even following through on the links, he has no ties to the area. Also, Wanda Sykes grew up here and went to the local high school – and she’s not listed at all. But I like the concept. And the page is well done. I think it’s just the data and the logic needs to be worked up.

    1. You seem to be completely correct. I could find no link of any kind between Kid Cudi and Crofton, Maryland.

      1. I could find no link in my brain b/w the words Kid Cudi and any knowledge of who the fuck he is
