R.I.P. Apollo Creed

From the NFL to acting to directing, he lived a full life.

    1. Funny you mention that. Weathers wanted a part in one of the latest Creed films, and Stallone said “no,” precisely because Apollo died in Rocky IV. Weathers’ position was intractable, to the point that he would not allow the use of his image in footage from the early movies. (Stallone wanted them for flashback sequences.)

I suppose Stallone could have written a part for him as Apollo’s twin brother, or some such gimmick, but it would be impossible to cobble a 70ish Apollo into the latest scripts, and Weathers looked too old to play Apollo before he died, so Stallone got painted into a corner.

      1. I guess it depends on how big a role he wanted. I could see it working as a cameo, like a dream sequence where Rocky imagines the two of them growing old together if he hadn’t died. But if he wanted a full-fledged part in the movie then Stallone was right to turn him down.

        1. Or something like how Apollo “talks” to him when he’s dreaming or in thought. Kinda like in NYPD Blue where Sipowicz is talking to the ghost of Simone for advice.
